Dutton Family Reference Materials

A Tribute to Richard A. Dutton, Colonel, U.S.A.F. (Retired), born April 24, 1930 and passed away on December 12, 1999.
A Photographic and Documentary Essay on the Ancestral Home of the Duttons of Dutton -- Dutton Hall.  This is a comprehensive resource for the 20th Century disposition of the historic structure.  Most of the documentation was submitted by Colin Dutton of England.
-------, Memorials of the Duttons of Dutton in Cheshire, Henry Sotheran & Co., London, 1901 [The copy that is presently in the archive is a copy and purchased from Higginson Genealogical Press.   It is rich in photographs of primary materials and is probably the main source work for the genealogy of the Duttons of Cheshire back to Odard (Hodard)]

John Coatsworth Dutton, Sr., DUTTONIA - Notes Concerning the History and Ancestry of the Dutton Families of Scandinavia, Normandy, England, and America, Self-Published, 1993, [A lifetime of work by a man who was professionally an electrical engineer and very methodical and thorough in his family research.  He traveled all over the world collecting data for this work.]

H.F. Starkey, Old Runcorn, Halton Borough Council, 1990, [A history of the area around Dutton, Cheshire County, England from pre-historic to modern times.  Includes information regarding the purchase and relocation of Dutton Hall among other family history.]
The College of Arms was incorporated during the reign of Charles III.  From 1530 to 1686, the King of Arms made Visitations to examine claims and either grant or deny the use of Arms.  There are several published Visitations to Cheshire and are available from major university and pubic libraries and the Cheshire record office.

The Harleian Society was founded in 1869 as a Record Society, and has published many volumes of Heraldic Visitations. They can be contacted at:
